NEW CITY, N.Y.-- "We're open."
Such are the words on the Facebook page of District 96 Beer Factory which opened July 10 in New City.
The new brewery offers 10 to 12 beers on tap with a wide variety of options -- think German style Kolsch, Belgian blonde, Witbier, Pale Ales, IPA's, Double IPA's, Porters, Cask and seasonal brews. Among the choices: American-isch, Sexual Relations, Silent Majority, The Wit House, and Dark Money. (More about those in a minute.)
John Potenza said after building a great craft beer following of rotating drafts at the Burger Loft, his restaurant next door, he and his business partners (brothers Dimitri and Kirk Theofanides) wanted to expand and get into brewing their own concoctions.
"During about a year and a half of construction and design, we found our brew master Chase and we worked out the name District 96, for our voting district," he said.
"We thought it would be fun to use political puns and phrases for our beer names especially during such a politically controversial time.
"It felt relevant while also remaining timeless. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have our name be part of our location so we are that much easier to find."
Stay tuned for the addition of food from The Burger Loft as well as additions to the District 96 menu.
Added Potenza: "We look forward to making our brewery a destination spot in Rockland and sharing our love of craft beer with the world."
The brewery is at 393 S Main St., 845-499-2409; www.facebook.com/district96beerco/ .
