CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- The Clarkstown Police Department recently held a one day training seminar, called Below 100, for police officers to help keep them safe as the number of line of duty deaths have been on the increase for several years.
More than 90 officers from departments across the state attended the event that was dubbed a "refresher" course for many who have been on the streets for years.
Some of the information provided during the course, may seem simple, but they all help save lives and include the importance of wearing vests, especially with shooting related deaths being up 300 percent as of today compared to this time last year. Other reminders: Don't be complacent, watch your speed, wear your seatbelt, and be aware.
Below 100 training is focused on permanently eliminating preventable line of duty deaths and injuries through innovative training and awareness.
Trainers who attended the event, were certified to take the program back to their departments to offer the training.
