Sculptured creatures, friendly monsters and surrealistic diorama’s bring multimedia artistic expression to a new level at "Out of the Ordinary," according to a release from My Own Little Gallery.

“I love to encourage people’s appreciation of art in all its many splendid forms,” said artist and gallery owner Elaine Schloss. “This current show is a combination of crazy, mixed up, wonderful art that is a blend of three disciplines (collage, paint and sculpture) by four extraordinary artists, each of whose work comments on reality in a unique way.”

Among the artists:

Debra Friedkin’s mixed media sculptures and collages incorporate found objects to depict iconic characters and settings ranging from prehistoric to futuristic–strange and fabulous creatures and animals, fossilized dinosaurs, mythical unicorns, aliens and humans or just body parts, the release said.

Most of Friedkin’s sculptures feature handmade clay and plaster figures built upon bits of metal or rock, along with salvaged materials that may be left as is or manipulated through carving and painting.

They are then integrated into conceptual diorama settings with surrealistic backgrounds which become powerful assemblages imbued with spirituality, according to the release.

Chris Machin calls his medium “Kustom Kulture.” He re-purposes working and non-working objects from the 1950s and '60s, usually makes them work, and then paints them with brilliant, pinstripe-like images, turning them into friendly monsters, or sensuous abstract sculptures, the release said.

Hudson Valley artist Susan Strange sources inspiration from every facet of life. Having roots as a decorative painter, her journey through the arts is bound to no one specific medium. A deep dive into collage expression has opened new doors and manifested into a new focal point for Strange’s artistic energy, according to the release.

Also on view are Schloss’s own powerful acrylic, semi-abstract nudes, imbued with her clean, dramatic line and her connection with the model to evoke a mood. Included are her never-before-seen “The Red Series,” paintings in which a dash of the bold color, or a large portion of the canvas draws focus from the passionate addition of Red, the release said.

Admission is free. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 1:30 to 5 p.m.
