Craft Your Own Pizza Spot Opens In Nanuet

NANUET, N.Y. - There are a lot of pizza options in Nanuet but PizzaRev feels they have a winning formula.

The craft-your-own pizza restaurant held a VIP pre-grand opening last night with 280 guests and will open to the public today, June 22.

PizzaRev isn’t quite the revolution Kramer envisioned on Seinfeld but it comes pretty close: similar to Chipotle, customers choose what dough, sauce, and toppings they’d like to see on their 11-inch pie, and watch as the PizzaRev staff assembles the pie right in front of them.

“It’s a great pizza. You try it one time and you fall in love with it,” said Satyen Shah, the Nanuet PizzaRev owner.

Shah plans to open other PizzaRevs in New Jersey and when presented with the opportunity to open a location in Nanuet, a place he often visits with his family, he felt it was a good fit.

The first locations were opened in California and the concept has continued to grow; Nanuet is the 40th PizzaRev location in the United States and Mexico, Shah said.

But what sets PizzaRev apart from the plethora of pizza options in a state like New York, Shah said, are the signature thin and gluten-free crusts, the variety of sauces to choose from including organic marinara and a creamy white alfredo, the chance to choose all your own toppings, and the PizzaRev oven, which takes only three minutes to cook the pizza.

“It’s really interactive. I think kids will really enjoy it,” Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann said at the opening.

Hoehmann opted for a thin crust pie with the original marinara sauce, four cheeses, and veggies. PizzaRev, he said, is one of several business openings he has attended recently, a sign of a healthy community.

Another positive—it took only 90 days to renovate the space and get approval from the town to open PizzaRev, something Hoehmann praised the town, specifically the building department, for making happen.

Larayne Peterson and her daughter Sloane heard about the opening on Facebook and decided to give PizzaRev a try.

“I like it a lot better because you can choose your own stuff,” Sloane said. She got veggies while Larayne added veggies, ground meatball, and bacon to her pie. And a restaurant like this leaves Larayne with a lot less headaches.

“I like the idea of picking your own toppings because we can never agree as a family,” Larayne said.

PizzaRev is located at 114 E Route 59 in the Toys R Us shopping center and is open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. The restaurant will also be hosting a fundraiser on Thursday to benefit People to People.
