“I would say pretty much all of them,” Mollet said. The couple laughed and gave the question more thought before rattling off several specific beers--then a few more.
Seven Lakes Station craft beer taproom, painted a bold turquoise to make it pop, is located on Route 17 at the foot of Harriman State Park, a mere blocks from the road it takes its name from, Seven Lakes Drive.
The two found the space last October, closed on the house in February, and then gutted and renovated it, adding a taproom and two apartments upstairs, one of which they call home.
Despite the small space with around 20 seats including a small bar, the taproom boasts a large selection of close to 100 beers, much of them local. There are 14 beers on tap and a plethora of other bottle and can selections with many available to go.
"We were fascinated by the amount of breweries there are in New York State, the north east in general,” Lovelace.
After meeting near San Francisco and living in Hawaii for a bit, Mollet and Lovelace moved east a couple years ago. (Lovelace is from the Bay Area while Mollet grew up in River Vale, N.J.)
Among the offerings are two flights of samples. The first is a local one that includes New York beers and those from nearby states. Among the seven brews listed: Glenmere Brewing Company from Florida, Newburgh Brewing Company, and Empire Brewing Company in Syracuse.
The specialty flight is the other and currently includes Oktoberfest/Pumpkin beers, like Southern Tier Pumpking and AleSmith Oktoberfest.
A nod to Mollet's heritage means you'll also find Belgian brews including Duvel, and those that incorporate Belgian brewing techniques like Ommegang Hennepin.
Customers can, of course, also simply get a 12 oz. beer of their choice. There's also light fare, like cheese plates and charcuterie.
Since opening up a couple weeks ago the couple have seen a wide demographic roll in, from locals to city dwellers up for the day to hike in Harriman -- everyone from 23-year-olds to 70-year-olds.
Plenty of customers have said to Mollet and Lovelace they’ve been passing through Sloatsburg for years and are excited to see a business like theirs set up shop. And others have even asked what it’s like to live in the area.
“We want to make this an attractive area for people to want to live here," Lovelace said.
