The hospital, a member of Montefiore Health System and the Montefiore Hudson Valley Collaborative, plans to construct a 16,300 sq. ft., two-story addition that will include a new and expanded Emergency Department and Medical Village. The additions are expected to be completed in 2018.
The project will double the size of the Emergency Department to 26,000 sq. ft., offering a separate Fast-track Urgent Care Center, new rapid assessment area, private behavioral health assessment unit, larger trauma treatment bays, and an imaging suite. With nearly 60,000 visits in 2015, Nyack Hospital’s Emergency Department is one of the most active in the lower Hudson Valley.
“We are committed to meeting the changing health care needs of those we serve, which includes being responsive to the underserved and vulnerable members of our community,” said Nyack Hospital President and CEO Dr. Mark Geller. “This initiative will help transform our health care delivery system by integrating access to primary, emergent, specialty and community-based care.”
The new Medical Village will house a 7,800 sq. ft. multi-specialty outpatient service center to include primary and specialty care providers and community-based support services. The center will also offer non-emergent transportation to and from appointments with providers and organizations in the Medical Village and other services offered at Nyack Hospital.
“The development of a Medical Village on the Nyack Hospital campus strengthens our ability to offer ease of access to appropriate and specialized health care services within the hospital or in the community,” said Geller. “Providing appropriate alternatives to hospitalization, by linking patients to community resources that best meet their health care needs, will enhance our health care delivery system and reduce costs and unnecessary hospitalizations.”
The renovations will also benefit students pursuing careers in health care by providing additional clinical opportunities for nurses, nurse practitioners, radiology technicians and laboratory technicians.
