"This funding helps to ensure that cultural activity is accessible to all residents whether they live in Haverstraw or Piermont or Garnerville or Nyack or Suffern," he said. "Just as importantly, it supports the arts, which can contribute greatly to a community's economy."
The County Executive was joined by Rockland County Director of Tourism and Economic Growth Lucy Redzeposki , ArtsWestchester CEO Janet Langsam, ArtsWestchester Associate Director of Programs, Sue Abbott, Leanne Tintori Wells, Arts Program Director, New York State Council on the Arts and others.
The grants are funded through New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program and will be managed by ArtsWestchester.
The grants are designed to increase access to arts activities, nurture the growth of emerging arts organizations, and support local artists. The funds will target artists, emerging cultural organizations and projects that engage people with limited access to the arts.
"The financial support from the New York State Council of the Arts decentralization grant program will bolster the cultural life of Rockland," said County Executive Day.
Numerous local officials were at the announcement to show their support including Suffern Mayor Jim Markunas, West Haverstraw Mayor Robert R. D'Amelio, Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan, Pomona Deputy Mayor Leon Harris, Rockland County Legislators Harriet Cornell and Aney Paul and others.
ArtsWestchester has scheduled five pre-application workshops at various sites throughout Rockland to guide potential applicants through the application process, including an overview of program priorities and an introduction to the web-based application portal.

- 6 p.m., Oct. 2, Suffern Free Library, 210 Lafayette Ave., Suffern.
- 6 p.m., Oct. 3, Finkelstein Memorial Library, 24 Chestnut St., Spring Valley.
