The donation was the work of volunteers led by Arizona grandmother, Karen Lange, who ships them all over the country at no cost.
She started doing it two and one-half years ago in memory of her grandson who died at 19.
Lange told Daily Voice her baby gowns made from wedding dresses people donate are called "Angel Gowns," because they are for "babies who gain their wings too early."
The volunteers also make bonnets and other bereavement items for babies to donate to hospitals in her area and around the country.
The program needs more wedding dresses along with volunteers to sew the intricate dresses.
"We could use someone to take apart dresses; to cut out the angel gowns and sew if they can; put embellishments on, for a number of things."
In this way, Lange said, "I try to help the grieving families.
The dresses, often with exquisite embellishments, including embroidery and appliques go to eight Phoenix-area hospitals, but often to out of state ones on request. Lange's program also serves funeral homes, she said.
Wedding dress donations may be sent to Karen Lange, 10419 W. Avalon Drive Avondale, AZ 85392.
