The Red Knights Motorcycle Club NY 18, an international motorcycle club made up of volunteer firemen, is hosting Country Western Night event for New City Firefighter Alan Handsman.

Handsman and his family received media attention in July after his daughter, Skylar, 10, wrote to a local company asking them to install a pool in their backyard.

In her letter Skylar explained how her father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last November. After undergoing a stem cell transfer Alan was advised to avoid being exposed to bacteria in public places, like a town pool. Skylar offered to set up a payment plan and offered up her savings in exchange for the pool.

Andy Bari and Bob Ball, the owners of Westrock Pools in Nanuet, ended up donating a pool to the Handsman family.

In addition, Bari and Ball managed to have Rockland Tree Company donate their services and take down a couple trees to give the pool more sunlight, and Bilco Electric to do electrical work.

Live music at the event will be provided by Country Fresh and additional musical entertainment from DJ Doug Volpi.

Tickets for Country Western Night cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The fundraiser, from 6 to 10 p.m. is at Rockland Lake Fire House and all proceeds will go to benefit the Handsman family.

The fundraiser is set for Saturday, Sept. 24, 6-10 p.m. at Rockland Lake Firehouse, Rockland Lake, N.Y.
