NANUET, N.Y. -- Inspired by a recent trip to San Francisco where it seems most men have beards -- and tend to take care grooming them -- Nanuet Entrepreneur Eli Hardof came up with an idea: To create a premium organic beard oil line.
Hardof, who many Rocklanders may remember from his years owning cult wine shop Wine For All in Tappan, said he came home from his California trip energized. "I realized I could probably blend my own and do a better job than what was commercially available," he said.
His product -- after much research and trial and error -- is made from high quality 100 percent certified organic oils, basically cold pressed organic Johoba and Argan oils which are great for both the beard and skin as they moisturize the whiskers making them softer and easier to groom with a nice sheen.
"These oils eliminate itching of the skin and prevent 'beardruff' which is like dandruff of the beard," explained Hardof.
"The proprietary scent is old world manly not hipster metrosexual and has notes of teakwood oil, smoke, pine, vanilla and a touch of orange peel."
Soon after he found his magic formula and came up with a name -- Beaver Buddy Balmy Beard Oil -- his wife and female friends noted that his beard felt much smoother and wasn't scratching them on the cheek. Which is where he came up with the cheeky slogan, "Beards with benefits."
Recently, Beaver Buddy was stocked at Ray's Barbershop, a hip barbershop in the Inwood section of Manhattan, as well as a nearby pharmacy. His goal is to aggressively market the oil in January when he plans to go door to door in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
Beaver Buddy Balmy Beard Oil is beard tested and women approved, added Hardof. It's also blended, bottled, and labeled in Rockland.
