Stony Point Golf Outing To Benefit Mother With Cancer, Son

STONY POINT, N.Y. -- Golfers and non-golfers alike can both be champions at a tournament in Stony Point this weekend by helping to raise money for a local family struggling with mounting medical expenses.

Mandy Bruy, a single mom from Rockland County, is battling cancer. Her son, Joshua, 4, who was born with Down syndrome, recently underwent heart surgery. A golf tournament and barbecue this Sunday in Stony Point will help raise money for the family.

The Patriot Hills Golf Club will be the setting on Sunday, Aug. 7, for the annual Phillips Tee Off For Tots golf tournament and family barbecue.

The event will raise funds for Joshua Bruy, a 4-year-old boy born with Down syndrome who recently underwent surgery to repair holes in his heart, and his mother, Mandy, who is battling a recurrence of anal cancer.

Down syndrome is a genetic disorder which causes developmental delays and physical disabilities.

The tourney starts at 7:30 a.m. at club, which is at 19 Club House Lane.

After the tournament, participants can indulge in barbecue, beer, wine and soda.

There will be live entertainment and prizes awarded as well.

Sponsorship packages are available.

Karen Fox of Blauvelt, a family friend, has set up a GoFundMe account for Mandy and Joshua.

According to Fox, the single mom has been working at a restaurant in Nanuet to support herself and her son.

Bruy has “exhausted all funds” and her medical bills are piling up, Fox said.

“I would hate to see monetary stress hinder her fight,” she added.

As of Thursday, the GoFundMe account had raised $4,835 towards a goal of $25,000.
