WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- Felix Festa Middle School student Larissa Karasik was killed in May 2015 when a drunk driver drove through a stop sign and crashed into her car.
In her memory, State Sen. David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that a 5K Fun Run will be held on Thursday, May 19, in support of the Larissa Karasik Foundation.
Karasik was an active member of Carlucci's Student Advisory Committee and had just weeks earlier traveled to Albany to participate in the senator's annual Mock Session on the floor of the Senate.
Karasik's mother, Anastasia Karasik, formed the Larissa Karasik Foundation, which helps families who are in need of food, clothing, and emotional support, following a tragedy, as well as raise awareness on the dangers of drunk and drugged driving.
Donations raised from run, which begins at 6 p.m.at the Rockland Lake State Park, will benefit both the Larissa Karasik Foundation and the Rockland Road Runners Scholarship Fund. Members of the Clarkstown South Softball Team, which Karasik played on, will also take part in the event.
To sign up to participate, call Carlucci's office at (845)-623-3627.
