Greenburgh Updates On Sidewalk Progress

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Sidewalks, smooth roadways and garbage pickup on time are the little things that make residents happy, and keep town and city employees busy. Including in Greenburgh, where three new major sidewalks projects will soon be underway.

Greenburgh residents can expect at least three new sidewalks this year, with more planned for next year.

The new sidewalks: Fort Hill from Ardsley Road heading south from Ardsley Road; Seely Place to Seely Place School, and Sprain Road to Ardsley Middle School, are being installed to make it easier and safer for children to walk to area schools, said Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.

"The Town Board and I are committed to appropriating funds in upcoming budgets for additional sidewalks. We will also be applying for federal and state financial assistance so we could do even more," Feiner said.

Their goals for 2017: Juniper Hill near the Lee Jackson School. The bottom of Old Tarrytown Road heading to the North White Plains train station, Ardsley Road, and other sections of Fort Hill Road.

The town will be appropriating funds each year for sidewalk construction to make the town more pedestrian friendly, Feiner added.

Last year over three miles of sidewalks were built. This year another three-plus miles of new sidewalks will also be built.

The current projects are currently out to bid, or on the drawing board, and at least one or two will begin construction by the middle of October.
