In 2013, after NYC initiated their bicycle share program, I pushed that the bicycle sharing program be expanded to Westchester. I am pleased that P3GM is planning to implement a bike share program in New Rochelle. A story appeared in the local newspapers this week about this exciting new program. Earlier this week, I wrote to Pedro Cabassa, operations manager of P3GM suggesting that the bike share program that his company will start in New Rochelle be expanded to the historic river villages of Hastings, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry and Tarrytown as well as Greenburgh.

I believe that a bike share program would be very popular, help local merchants and would attract more tourists who would be able to take the train and then get on a bicycle and visit some of the scenic and charming communities along the river and town. I believe that the New Rochelle bike share program has the potential to be a big success. I think it will be even more popular and successful if other communities could also encourage bike sharing in our towns, villages and hamlets. Bicycle sharing initiatives also encourage those without bicycles to rent a bicycle for a short outing.
