Dennis Wilson, Jr., 32, of Walden, was sentenced by Orange County Court Judge Craig Stephen Brown in connection with the March 4, 2017, death of Jason G. Exley, 28, of Walden, said the DA's Office.
Wilson, who pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide in November, admitted that he drove his Jeep across the double yellow line on Route 52 into the opposing lane, striking Exley's car, killing him, Hoovler said.
Wilson also admitted at the time of the collision of having a BAC of .20 percent, the District attorney said.
The District Attorney’s Office had recommended a sentence of six to 18 years in state prison.
“This defendant’s decision to drink and drive cost an innocent man his life and merits a lengthy prison sentence,” said Hoovler. “Fatalities caused by those who drive while intoxicated are as preventable as they are tragic. I hope this state prison sentence will act as a deterrent to all who are tempted to drive while intoxicated. I urge all who are tempted to drive while impaired by any substance to consider the possibly fatal consequences of that decision, and make other plans to get home.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jason Rosenwasser.
