Robert Lynn, who had worked for Clarkstown police since 1985 and was 60 when he injured his arms during two separate falls, had disputed his official date of retirement, according to lohud.com, which reported that the town believed he had retired in August 2013 while Lynn claimed to have retired in August 2014.

Lynn claimed the discrepancy resulted from the town's refusal to grant him disability benefits, which forced him to burn through his accumulated leave time, according to lohud.com.

Acting state Supreme Court Justice Sherri Eisenpress apparently agreed, ruling that Lynn's retirement should be official as of August 2014 and that the town should pay him the $185,000 by March 9, according to lohud.com.
