On Friday, Sept. 9, Rockland County Executive Ed Day, and Rockland Community College student veterans are among the guest speakers during an 8 a.m. ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial Garden on RCC's academic quad in Suffern.

RCC’s Memorial Garden includes a sculpture "(Spirit Rising") by Eric David Laxman, made with steel pulled from the ashes of the site of the World Trade Center. The Garden also includes benches and a beautiful inscription of the 9/11 poem ("Out of the Blue") written by Dan Masterson, Poet Laureate of Rockland County.

Young saplings nurtured from the famed 9/11 Survivor Tree are nearby. Many people have dedicated inscribed brick pavers for the Walkway to Success that surrounds the memorial.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, Orangetown will hold its annual memorial ceremony. The ceremony begins at 2 p.m. at Town Hall, and is an opportunity for the community to commemorate those who lost their lives on that day.
