Which is why millions of people, many who never normally buy lottery tickets, forked over money to play the Powerball Lottery throughout Rockland.

Nobody won Wednesday's drawing so the fantasizing continues until the next drawing Saturday for many who will try again. Others will sit this round out.

At Koblin's Pharmacy in Nyack, Joan Brooks said on Thursday that if she won the lottery, "I'd give some to my two children, their children, the church, the homeless, and then me."

A few patrons during lunchtime Thursday were buying tickets, vying for another chance at the next pot of gold.

Koblin's manager Chuck Travers said queues on Monday evening had snaked through the neighborhood pharmacy as people waited patiently to buy lottery tickets.

"We only have crowds like that when we have the big numbers," he said, adding that he was expecting a repeat performance of lottery frenzy on Saturday.

According to a Powerball Winner Information readout Travers had, there was one winner in New York who won $1 million. That lottery holder got five of the five numbers right, but not the Powerball number. Another lucky gambler snagged $50,000 for four correct numbers.

Randy Bennett of Nyack was at Koblins today purchasing scratch-off lottery tickets, not Powerball. "The odds are too astronomical for Powerball," he said. Today he won $17 but he added, "I spent $20 to win this. It's a lot like going to Vegas."
