The bridge is maintained by the state Department of Transportation.

"We thank the state DOT and our state representatives for working to get the bridge open before the holiday rush," Rockland County Executive Ed Day said. "People in that area of Rockland County were very eager to be able to use the bridge again."

Traffic lights have been installed to control the flow of vehicles using the bridge. There also is a four-foot shoulder adjacent to the existing sidewalk on the east side of the bridge that pedestrians can use.

The bridge, which goes over the New York State Thruway, had been closed since October when a truck crashed into it, causing structural damage.

Day thanked Rockland County Highway Superintendent Charles "Skip" Vezzetti and bridge engineer Andrew Connors for coordinating with the state DOT and the Thruway Authority to make sure the work was done promptly.
