ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's review of the Rockland County budget for the 2016 fiscal year found that "the significant revenue and expenditure projections in the proposed budget are reasonable."

In accordance with the comptroller's recommendations, County Executive Ed Day plans to reduce the audited year-end General Fund unreserved deficit fund balance each year by a minimum of 10 percent. Day's office says he will accomplish this via conservative budgetary practices and running government more efficiently, which has already yielded impressive savings during the first two years of his administration.

This will create a general fund operating surplus and will avoid an additional burden to the county taxpayer. If the 10 percent surplus is not achieved due to some unanticipated reason, Day's office said he will add any shortfall to his following year's budget.
