WEST NYACK, N.Y. -- Helen O'Brien, 98, of West Nyack, died Saturday, Oct. 15.
She was born July 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Margaret Ryan and Michael Hawe and was the eldest of eight children.
She maintained a loving relationship and interest in her family and community. She was a faithful member of St. Aedan's Church in Pearl River. For many years, she worked in quality control at Prentice Hall Publishers.
She was predeceased by her husband, Phil.
She is survived by her children, Sister Mary Eileen O'Brien, O.P., Vincent, Rose Marie (James) Dierksen, Philip and Margaret; grandchildren, Kristen, Erica, Joseph, Kim, Diane, Kevin, James, Alice, Marianna, Catherine, John, Paul and Michael; great-grandchildren, Jana, Ronan, Jessica, Jack, Miles, Madelyn, Aidan, Tyler, Kaitlyn, Ashley, Anthony, Kevin, Ryan, Brandon, James and Kelsey; and sisters, Betty Horan, Rita Reutter and Agnes Reilly (Frank).
The family will receive friends from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, 34 N. Summit St., Pearl River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St Aedan's Church, 23 S. Reld Dr., Pearl River. Internment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a scholarship fund in memory of Helen and Philip O' Brien at Dominican College, 470 Western Highway Blauvelt, NY 10913
