Calling hours for Josh Indorf will be Sunday, Nov. 5 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m at the McHoul Funeral Home, 1089 Main St., in Fishkill. Funeral services are set for noon Monday at the funeral home.
The motocross loving Town of Wappinger teen is being remembered by friends and classmates with words such as nice and kind and for encouraging others to smile.
A friend and fellow classmate Leann Drusik has known Josh since they were in the sixth grade when she was new to the area and Josh and his friends welcomed her to the school.
"Josh was just an amazing person," Drusik said. "He loved to ride his dirt bike ( #72 ) and I’m sure he’s up there in heaven racing everyone and beating everyone."
She also said she would miss "hearing him say hey" every day in Chemistry class at Ketcham.
His favorite color was blue, so Thursday, all of the students wore blue and school officials held a moment of silence.
"The whole school was very quiet and sad but we were all there for one another as a community and as a family," she said.
On Friday, students again wore blue, and John Jay High School wore red for his honor. Students also clustered around the site of the crash after school on Friday.
"He had such a long life ahead of him but he’s in a better place now, we all love him and will miss him dearly but we know his wonderful spirit will always be with us," Drusik said after attending the event where she said they let blue balloons go to the heavens.
The crash happened around 6 p.m. Wednesday when a blue 2007 Ford pickup truck in which Josh was a passenger along with three others rolled over and Josh was ejected from the truck, state police said. He was pronounced dead at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. The three other students were taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital with serious injuries.
Officers of the East Fishkill Police department also offered their sympathy to the family in a statement: "The officers and staff of our department wish to extend our sympathy to the family and friends of Josh Indorf and the entire R.C. Ketcham community as they deal with this tragic loss. We also offer our thoughts and prayers to the other students injured in the Wednesday evening crash on Old Hopewell Road."
A scholarship fund has been set up in Josh's name for a graduating student who aspires to become a mechanic, the career that Josh was looking forward to.
Donations should be made payable to Roy C. Ketcham High School.
"He's in a better place now," Drusik said. "Everyone is coming together after this tragic accident and it’s so beautiful."
