NANUET, N.Y. -- John Joseph Kelly, a resident of Nanuet, died Thursday, Jan. 27. He was 82.
After emigrating from Ireland in 1950, Kelly served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Upon returning, he became a butcher in NYC and settled in Flushing, Queens. He had his own butcher shop called Westport Meat Market in Bayside, Queens. He then worked for New York City as a food inspector. He retired 20 years ago.
He is survived by his wife, Nora; his daughters, AnnMarie Dari, Geraldine Kelly, Eileen Kelly and Noreen Murray; his grandchildren, Kelli, Hannah, Shannon, Colleen, Meghan, and Liam; his siblings, Nora Lally, Chris and Hugh Kelly in Ireland; a niece, Margaret Liddy; and a nephew, James Liddy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. Augustine's Church in New City. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Nanuet.
