Longtime New City firefighter and Clarkstown Police Officer Paul D'Alessandro recently passed away in Arizona, where he has resided for years after leaving New York, the department said.

Affectionately known as "Dingo," D'Alessandro served for 12 years as an active member, holding several positions in that time. He was a trustee from 1996-2001 and oversaw the construction of the department's current firehouse that began in 1996, until its completion

After his term as trustee ended, D'Alessandro was elected to the New City Board of Fire Commissioners in 2001-2005. He was also a member of the Clarkstown Police Department, serving for 31 years and retiring in 1998 as a lieutenant.

A service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 11 a.m. at the Frederick Loescher Veterans Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley.

The second loss was ex-Chief Daniel Kroenung, Jr., who died on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

He joined the New City Fire Engine Company #1 in 1951. A Life Member, he had 64 years of service to the company. He was elected Chief for the 1978-1979 term. He also served on the truck committee and was a military veteran.

Kroenung moved to New Berlin many years ago with his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth.

A private service was held by family and close friends.
