A prayer service and viewing have been scheduled for longtime Assemblyman Frank Skartados, who died Sunday from pancreatic cancer.

The viewing is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at DiDonato Funeral Services at 1290 Route 9W in Marlboro.

A prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Skartados represented the 104th Assembly District, which includes both the City of Newburgh and the Town of Newburgh; as well as the City of Beacon, the City of Poughkeepsie, the Hamlet of Marlboro, and the Town of Lloyd.

Skartados owned a small farm in Milton and renovated properties in downtown Poughkeepsie where he was also the founder and president of the Academy Street Business Association in the City of Poughkeepsie.

According to his website, Skartados helped in efforts to revitalize the city's "business environment."

He was born in Greece and moved to America at age 14 with his mother.

Within months of arriving in New York City, his mother returned to Greece, leaving him to build his own life in America where he taught himself English and worked his way through school.

Skartados attended SUNY New Paltz and studied political science.
