Shelagh M. McGovern, 78, Longtime New City Resident

FAIR LAWN, N.J. -- Shelagh M. (Izzard) McGovern, of Fair Lawn, died Sunday, Jan. 3. She was 78.

Born and raised in Rhyl, Wales, she immigrated to the United States in 1965 and was a longtime resident of New City and Pearl River, N.Y., prior to settling in Fair Lawn 13 years ago. 

She was a parishioner of St. Augustine RC Church in New City

Prior to retiring, she was employed as a medical stenographer for Nyack Hospital for more than 20 years. 

She was the wife of the late Patrick McGovern; mother of Paul McGovern and wife Laura, Linda Walters and husband James and Laura Reynolds and husband Dave; grandmother of Nicole, Ciaran and Colleen; and sister of Patrick and Bernard Izzard, Olwen Hawkins, Eileen Richards and Maria Koorey and the late Betty Radcliffe. 

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4–8 p.m. Tuesday at Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home Inc., 13-31 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn. 

A funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony RC Church, 36 W. Nyack Road, Nanuet. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery, Nanuet.
