Allendale PD: Driver Shouted Death Threat Outside Northern Highlands HS

ALLENDALE, N.J. – “I will kill everyone!” a frustrated father of a student shouted as he pulled into the parking lot of Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, making a gun gesture with his hands – and leading to his arrest, authorities said.

Another student told police he was stopped in traffic driving out of the lot Tuesday when a white Nissan pulled in and stopped next to a vehicle in front of his, Police Chief George Scherb said.

The Nissan driver “made a weapons gesture with his hands” while shouting at the other driver that he would “kill everyone,” Scherb said.

After identifying him, officers and detectives arrested the driver, 53-year-old Steven Schwartz, at his Hasbrouck Heights home.

Schwartz told them he was picking up his child from school and “it was not his intent to cause alarm,” the chief said. “Rather, he was expressing his displeasure with another motorist.”

He was arrested, processed at police headquarters and released pending a March hearing on charges of making terroristic threats.

Scherb thanked Hasbrouck Heights police and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
