NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Clarkstown police are investigating an incident in which an unidentified man may have attempted to lure a group of children toward his car.

Police responded to a report of a suspicious incident at Morris Drive in New City on Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m., officials report.

The parent of an 8-year-old girl stated that her daughter and two boys were playing in the front yard of their home when a man in a four-door black sedan with tinted windows stopped in front and possibly made a hand gesture to the children, according to police.

The children didn’t know who the man was, so they went into their homes without any further contact with him, officials report.

The man was described as approximately 40 years old, with tan skin and wearing sunglasses; the children were not able to provide any further information to the officer, according to police.

An extensive canvass of the area was conducted, officials report.

According to police, the matter appears to be an isolated incident; no other such incidents were reported to the department.

The Clarkstown Juvenile Aid Bureau is following up on the incident, officials report.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Juvenile Aid Bureau at 845-639-5835.

Police are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
