NEW CITY, N.Y. -- A former New City volunteer firefighter is garnering heartfelt congratulations from his “brothers.”
Scott Gardiner, who started as a young volunteer in the Clarkstown hamlet in 1990, moved south to pursue a paid firefighter’s position, according to a Facebook post by the department.
He served in New City for about six years, according to current Chief Dennis Rodriguez.
Gardiner was recently promoted to district chief of the Brevard County Fire Department in Florida.
Rodriguez, who joined the department in 1991, said he and other firefighters have kept in touch with Gardiner over the years, and some have even visited him in Florida.
In the Facebook post, Gardiner's former New City colleagues said they wished him and his family “good luck” as he started “yet another chapter in his career.”
