Officers Kevin McWilliams and Colin Gurney began CPR and attached a defibrillator as ambulance corps members and paramedics responded, Detective Lt. Edward Kane said.

The victim's pulse returned and he was rushed to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, the lieutenant said.

He was back at work six weeks later.

The grateful man and his family attended a recent borough council meeting, making powerful speeches thanking the emergency workers for their efforts that Dec. 9 day.

"You should have heard him and his wife...unreal," one responder said. "Police officers were working hard to keep it together.

"It was a great night."
