Officers charged Sumeet Bhatia with DWI at 8:01 p.m., after they responded to a car accident on Blauvelt's Pine Glen Drive, police said.

The officers saw a vehicle that had driven off the roadway and crashed into a group of trees, authorities said, and when they spoke to the driver, Bhatia, they noticed his alcohol-smelling breath and glassy, bloodshot eyes.

OPD arrested Bhatia and transported him to police headquarters, where authorities say he refused to take a breath test. He was processed and charged with misdemeanor DWI.

He's due in Orangetown Justice Court on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
