Man With 'Stay-Away' Orders Found With Woman In Rockland Parking Lot

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 24-year-old West Haverstraw man who had three "stay-away" orders of protection was arrested in Stony Point, according to police.

Charged with those and other violations was Emmanuel Aponte of 25 E. Railroad Ave.

Police said they found Aponte in a car in a parking lot with the woman who had filed the orders of protection against him on Nov. 10.

Aponte was additionally charged with second-degree criminal contempt and unlawful possession of marijuana.

The arrest occurred, police said, after a patrol car checked on an occupied vehicle in a shopping center parking lot where no businesses were open overnight. Upon identifying the occupants, investigation determined that the defendant was sitting in the driver’s seat alongside a female who had the orders of protection against him, police said.

Upon his arrest, Aponte was found to possess a small amount of marijuana, police said. He was arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court where he was sent to Rockland CountyJail in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Aponte is due to return to court at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
