Nyack Man Steals $141.70 Of Cigarettes With Stolen Debit Card, Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A man allegedly attempting to purchase cigarettes with a stolen debit card was busted by police in Nyack.

Members of the Orangetown Police Department were dispatched to Murray’s Deli on South Broadway in Nyack on Wednesday when there were reports of a suspicious incident involving a man attempting to purchase an excess of cigarettes.

According to police, during the subsequent interview with police, it was determined that 41-year-old Valley Cottage resident Ralph Riverso was purchasing $141.70 worth of cigarettes with a stolen debit card.

After being processed at Orangetown Police Headquarters, he was processed and charged with felony counts of grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He was also charged with petit larceny, criminal impersonation and criminal possession of a controlled substance, all misdemeanors.

Riverso was remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail. He is due back in court later this year.
