State Police troopers from Monroe stopped Garnerville resident Carol Fernandez, 26, on Tuesday on Route 17 in Blooming Grove for vehicle and traffic violations. During the subsequent stop, it was determined by troopers that Fernandez was driving while intoxicated and she was taken into custody.

Later that day, troopers stopped Haverstraw resident Paula Lopez, 23, while she was driving on Route 56 in Nyack for a traffic violation. Further investigation determined that she was impaired by alcohol and she too was arrested.

Other arrests were made in Wallkill, Cairo and Monticello on Tuesday and Wednesday. All five motorists were arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. They’ve since been released and are due in court later this year to answer the charges.
