The arrest came about when police responded to the report of a possible dispute occurring at a residence Thursday about 12:05 a.m., according to police.
The suspect, identified as Daniel Gotkin, was allegedly involved in an argument with an elderly woman and broke numerous items within the residence, police said.
In addition, Gotkin allegedly stole a number of items from the residence, including the woman’s cellphone, preventing her from calling the police; he then displayed a knife and threatened her, at which time she fled and managed to notify the police, authorities said.
Police arrived, took Gotkin into custody and transported him to Orangetown police headquarters, according to police.
Gotkin has been charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony, along with second-degree menacing, fourth-degree criminal mischief and petty larceny, all misdemeanors, police said.
The defendant was arraigned and transported to Rockland County Jail, according to police.
