RAMAPO, N.Y. -- At about 3 a.m. during their midnight shift Thursday, Ramapo police received a report of cattle roaming the roadways in the Airmont and South Monsey area.
Officers located about eight cows walking in the roadway on Saddle River Road near the Ascension Cemetery. Lighting was poor, and unsuspecting vehicles could easily strike the animals, so officers remained on-scene attempting to guide the cows off Saddle River Road.
Their Emergency Communications Center was able to determine that the cows belonged to Duryea Farm on Ackertown Road in Chestnut Ridge. They were contacted and sent a farmhand to assist in herding the cows back to their home. All of the cows were returned by about 3:45 a.m.
