A short time after the reported burglary a neighbor reported to police that two men in a vehicle were at his neighbor’s house and believing they were suspicious wrote down the license plate, said Lt. Daniel Hylas.

When police checked the registration on the reported vehicle, they found it to belong to the homeowner on Bender Court, the victim of the crime. The owner had no idea who had his car, Hylas said.

Detectives put an alert on the car and within a few hours located Xavier Urena, 34, currently homeless, was spotted driving the car in the Village of Haverstraw.

After being stopped, detectives also found other items from the Bender Court home as well as possessing cocaine, Hylas added.

Urena was charged with felony burglary, grand larceny, criminal possession of property, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail on $60,000.00 bail. He is due back in court on Jan. 3.

The investigation is continuing to identify and arrest the second suspect.
