Procession Will Honor Hillcrest Firefighter Sgt. James Morrison

NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Members of the Hillcrest Fire Department will provide an escort when the body of Army Sgt. James Morrison is brought home through Newark Airport on Thursday.

The solder and Hillcrest Fire Department member was 28 when he died last week in Fort Carson, Colo.

He was serving with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry, after three deployments in Afghanistan.

The sergeant was a 10-year member of the Hillcrest Fire Company serving as a firefighter and apparatus operator. His father Rich Morrison is also a life member with Hillcrest FD. 

The young soldier's casket will be handed over from the members of his Army unit to the HFD escort, John Erzen Chief Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1 said in a statement.

The procession will head up the Palisades Parkway from Fort Lee to Mount Ivy. 

Mutual aid chiefs with apparatus will stage on various overpasses in New City and Nanuet as the procession goes by. 

Visitation is 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at T.J. McGowan Funeral Home, Central Highway, Garnerville. A firematic service with department members in full dress uniform takes place at 8 p.m.

Internment and graveside service is Sunday, Oct. 30 at noon. Morrison will be buried will full military honors at the Veterans Cemetery on Brick Church Road in New Hempstead.
