RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Ramapo police have arrested a 66-year-old resident of Spring Valley on a DWI charge, authorities said.

The arrest occurred when officers responded to Route 59 in the Monsey area for a report of a motor vehicle accident on Friday, according to police.

While investigating the accident, the officer observed one of the drivers to be showing signs of intoxication, police said.

One clue that led to the motorist's arrest was that he was wearing his shoes on the wrong feet, according to police.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

The defendant posted bail and was released, according to police.

He is due back in Ramapo Court next month, police said.
