ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - Nearly three dozen new volunteer firefighters were welcomed to the service by Rockland County Ed Day at their latest graduation ceremony.

Day congratulated 33 members of the graduating class of volunteer firefighters at a ceremony on Thursday. Each graduated with an expertise in either Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO), Interior Firefighting Operations (IFO), or both.

At the ceremony Day, thanked the firefighters for “their selfless decision to serve the community,” and issued a call for new volunteers to join the ranks in the future.

"As firefighters, you will be running into burning buildings, getting up in the middle of the night, going out in all kinds of weather, ready to respond at moment's notice when someone needs help. Even if it means putting yourself in harm's way," he said. "This service is all the more remarkable because you do it as volunteers.”

Day also praised the staff and instructors at the Rockland County Fire Training Center for providing the new recruits with “top-notch classroom and practical experience.”

"As a former law enforcement official, I welcome you to the fellowship of first responders. We will always have your back," he told the graduates. "And we will pray that you and everyone on your team comes home safely after each and every call.”
