A 21-year-old Orange County parolee took police on a wild foot chase after allegedly threatening another man with a knife during an altercation in Port Jervis.

Officers from the Port Jervis Police Department were dispatched to Holbrook Street in the west end of the city at approximately 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, where there were reports of a disturbance involving a man threatening another with a weapon.

Upon arrival at the scene, police said that the suspect - later identified as Port Jervis resident Austin Babcock - had fled on foot, leading to an investigation in the area. While searching for Babcock, a police dispatcher monitoring street cameras spotted him in the area of Railroad Avenue.

When approached by officers on foot, Babcock again attempted to run but was apprehended on Washington Avenue and apprehended without further incident after he was found attempting to hide in a driveway.

Babcock was arrested and charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon, violation of parole and menacing, a misdemeanor. He was held in City Lock-up overnight and arraigned on Thursday. Following arraignment, Babcock was remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $7,500 bail. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
