Thomas Walker, 51, was arrested after Orangetown Police observed him driving the 52,000 pound tree service truck erratically, swerving on and off the roadway, and forcing other vehicles to drive into oncoming traffic lanes to avoid the truck on Route 303 in Blauvelt around 1:30 p.m, police said.

Officers managed to stop the truck, and while speaking with Walker, who was slurring his words, they could smell alcohol on his breath. Walker also failed multiple field sobriety tests, police said.

He was charged with DWI and consented to a breathalyzer test which showed that his blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit, police added.

Walker was released on bail and is due to appear in court on Nov. 9.
