Day, a Republican, was elected by just 163 votes over Democrat Thom Kleiner, in the race to replace outgoing Supervisor Andy Stewart. Kleiner has previously served as town supervisor.
"I am very excited and honored by this opportunity," Day said. "It's a big task to take on, but it's a very good feeling."
Day said he ran on preserving the town, lowering taxes, growing the economy and keeping the community safe. He said he would like to see Orangetown's vacant space put to good use while also advancing legislation on code enforcement.
"I want Orangetown to remain a type of town our kids want to live in," Day said.
The transition process has been great, Day said and he has met with Stewart several times to learn about the inner workings of the town. Day said he will use his private sector experience to keep town government efficient and to help save money.
"You can't offer a bunch of services if there aren't people here to use them," Day said. "My plans resonated with the people of Orangetown and I am honored to have their support."
It was a great election night for the Day family overall. Day's father, Ed, was re-elected to a second term as Rockland County Executive.
