There are three finalists for the position, all currently serving as school superintendents in New York state:
- Douglas S. Adams, superintendent, Ramapo Central School District
- Martin D. Cox, superintendent, Sodus Central School District
- Jeffrey R. Rabey, superintendent, Depew Union Free School District
Each of the finalists will be spending a full day in the Clarkstown school district visiting schools and participating in various activities and meetings, culminating in an interview with the board of education at the end of each day.
Each candidate will be holding two public forums to provide members of the Clarkstown community information on his background and experience and to answer questions.

Following the candidate visits, the board will review the feedback received from staff and community members. The board plans to make the announcement of the new superintendent by mid-February.
