CLARKSTOWN, N.Y. -- Several hundred Clarkstown Teachers Association members rallied outside Felix V. Festa Middle School this week to protest the fact that they've been working without a contract since Aug. 31, 2015, according to lohud.com.
The association, which covers teachers, teaching assistants and educational secretaries in Clarkstown, has been unable to reach an agreement with the district despite meeting 15 times since March 2015, according to lohud.com.
In a Facebook post on the association's page , members can be seen carrying signs at the Tuesday rally that said "Staff Reductions + Closing Schools = Impact on Student Learning" and "We Need A Contract," according to lohud.com, which reported that the rally was held prior to a school board meeting.
A previous five-year contract between the association and the district was approved in June 2010, according to lohud.com. It included an 18-month salary freeze and a temporary stop on longevity pay raises, lohud.com reported.
