Several Orangetown Police officers attended the Wednesday event. "They enjoyed teaching the kids about law enforcement equipment, playing football and interacting with the families," the department noted in a Thursday Facebook post.

"We would like to wish everyone a safe and successful school year."

The Nyack Center -- which has been providing services to the Nyacks and Rockland County for 26 years -- has been collecting the supplies for over a month, and many in the community stepped up.

In recent Facebook posts, the Nyack Center thanked many of the donors: People to People, Diane Serratore, Christine Cordey Salon, Hailey Raab, Nyack Center board and staff, Nyack Village trustees and village clerk, state Sen. David Carlucci, Nyack Middle School Principal Dave Johnson, and a wide variety of residents and families.
