School Trustee's Residency In Question In East Ramapo

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- Parents and others in the troubled East Ramapo school district are demanding that a member of its board of education step down, claiming he doesn't live at the address he provided, according to lohud.com.

Newly appointed school trustee Joe Chajmovicz lives at this home on Fawn Hill Drive in Airmont, according to East Ramapo school officials. Others claim it is a phony address and are calling for Chajmovicz's resignation.

Joe Chajmovicz, 41, who works in the real estate sector, was appointed to the board in July to fulfill the unexpired term of Yakov Engel, lohud.com reported.

The district told lohud.com that Chajmovicz has lived on Fawn Hill Drive in Airmont for more than five years and public records in 2010 show it as his address, but other records show a different person as the owner in 2015, the media outlet reported.

According to lohud.com -- which has been unable to contact Chajmovicz directly -- the Spring Valley NAACP is demanding to know why Jean Fields, a former Social Studies teacher and principal of Ramapo High School, was not picked to replace Engel.

Fields is the co-chair of the NAACP’s Education Committee. The nine-member school board is largely made up of Orthodox Jewish men.
