Albertus Magnus High School recently named longtime coach and teacher Tim Gavan as the school's new director of athletics.
Gavan takes over for school and county legend Joe McGuinness, who passed away in February after a battle with cancer.
Gavan was the varsity girls soccer coach the last four years, guiding the team to a Section 1 title last fall. He also coached boys JV and was the varsity assistant for nine years prior to that. Gavan also taught physical education and theology at the school.
Gavan, in his 13th year at Albertus Magnus, grew up in Stony Point and attended Albertus Magnus, where he played four years of soccer, earning All-Section and All-County status. He was also a league MVP. He was a 2001 graduate, and later graduated from Fordham University in 2005.
