Nanuet Woman, Congers Man Charged With DWI In Separate Orangetown Stops ORANGETOWN, N.Y. - Since Dec. 5, the Orangetown Police Department has charged drivers with drunk driving in three separate incidents. While on patrol shortly before 3 a.m. on Dec. 5, an officer stopped Andrew Letterese, 29 of Congers, for a traffic violation. The officer then asked that Letterese perform the standard field sobriety tests and a breath test, both of which he allegedly failed. He was taken into custody and charged with a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated. He was released and is due at Nyack Court on Jan. 5. Byram Hills Ptsa Wraps Up 'The Gift Of Giving' BYRAM HILLS, N.Y. -- The Byram Hills Parent Teacher Student Association is holding a "Gift of Giving" event where families come together at the Wampus School cafeteria to wrap presents for children in need. On Tuesday, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. parents and children will be wrapping presents for the students at the Pleasantville Cottage School. The school is a not-for-profit therapeutic residential treatment center for abandoned and neglected children. Assemblyman Zebrowski Supports Reforms For Common Core NEW CITY, N.Y. -- Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski says he supports the idea of reforming Common Core.With Gov. Andrew Cuomo's Common Core Task Force concluding its work and submitting recommendations to the Governor shortly, Zebrowski sent a letter asking that he support reforms to the Common Core. The letter asks the governor to support reforms to the Common Core curriculum, reduce standardized testing and eliminate the testing emphasis of teacher evaluations. "These issues must be a priority in the next legislative session," Zebrowski said.

Suspicious Backpack Tops North Castle Police Blotter NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- North Castle police had a busy weekend, starting with a suspicious package the morning of Saturday, Dec. 5. Mount Pleasant police reported that they received a tip via the hotline about 10:20 a.m. saying there was a suspicious backpack that had been left on the right side of the Kensico Dam staircase. Senate Leader Skelos Found Guilty In Case Involving Area Law Firm This story has been updated. After only two days of deliberation, a Manhattan Federal Court found New York Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos and his son Adam guilty of corruption charges, according to reports. Skelos was found guilty of illegally approving a contract for a Scarsdale firm for which his son had been employed. Stony Point Historical Society Reopens One-Room Schoolhouse STONY POINT, N.Y. -- The Stony Point Historical Society invites the town to celebrate the reopening of the Pyngyp One-Room Schoolhouse on Sunday. The original schoolhouse was opened in 1812 and served the community, in one form or another, until 1945, when the district outgrew the space. The schoolhouse was added to the New York State Register of Historic Places in November 2011 and to the National Register of Historic Places in January 2012.
