SUFFERN, N.Y. -- An unidentified pedestrian was struck and killed by a car late Wednesday night on Route 202 in Suffern, according to authorities. The incident occurred just before midnight near the intersection of Wilder Road. Another person was injured in the incident. Both victims were students from a yeshiva on Route 202, according to multiple reports. RCC Announces Committee For President Search Rockland Community College recently announced the selection of a 17-member committee that will assist with the search to replace the college's outgoing president. The committee includes members of the college's staff and Board of Trustees, local education officials, local legislators, and college groups, who will conduct a search for the successor to current President Cliff L. Rockland Man Arrested For Criminal Contempt STONY POINT, N.Y. - A 44-year-old Pomona man was arrested for criminal contempt stemming from a violation of a protection order, according to police.  Matthew Prentice was arrested on Aug. 30 by the Stony Point Police Department for violating an order of protection. The arrest followed a warrant investigation, according to Stony Point Police Lt. Keith Williams.  Prentice was arraigned in the town justice court and released on an appearance ticket after posting $250 bail. He was given a court date for later this month.

Rockland Fire Safety Reports System Would Be Overhauled In New Legislation Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski announced a piece of legislation on Friday that aims to overhaul the law governing school fire safety reports to ensure adequate inspections take place and that reports are filed in a timely manner. The legislation addresses the lack of recourse for schools that do no comply in a timely fashion to submit an annual fire safety report or do not submit one entirely.
